We are back to Puerto Morelos for another season (2022-2023!) Week #1

YES, HERE WE ARE BACK IN PARADISE!💖

This year I hope to do regular blog posts, so many of you were disappointed that I didn't post often last year but as you know from reading the few posts I did that we were doing a lot of work on our CASA PURA VIDE and that took up a lot of time. The other reason was lack of content outside of the CASA - due to COVlD regulations, we didn't feel safe enough to do much beyond Puerto Morelos - we do plan to change that up a bit this year however. If all goes well there will be a few surprises this season - one coming up in November and the second in January. If there are more they will be a surprise to us also. Lol.

Dwayne gave us a ride to the Sudbury airport the morning of October 22nd for our outgoing flight scheduled for 10:35 am. The flight to Toronto was on time, there we had a layover until 4:00 pm., then off to Cancun.

The weather was nice that day, although you wouldn't know it with me wearing my heavy winter coat. I like to take it on the plane so I can snuggle down and have a nice sleep. It is so needed when we return home in February or March too.

We flew out of Sudbury on a Bombardier CRj200 - now that is not really important to me and a lot of you blog followers but it is to Grandpa and Jeromy.
Speaking of Jeromy, he left Pal Aviation in St. John's New Foundland this summer and took employment with Rocky Mountain Air, Aircraft Structural Repair in Calgary. What a lucky kid - he is seeing the best of Canada in his employment. He is certainly loving the adventures that come with it, living in other places and meeting people. Manitoulin will always be the closest to his heart but who would want to deny him the pleasure he will have and  the knowledge he will gain from travel.

There was some slight fog on our way to Sudbury in the early morning but it cleared up nicely and we had great travel weather all the way.

There were  no COVID regulations at any of the airports (Sudbury/Toronto/Cancun) or on the planes  but we chose to wear our masks  anyway- an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure they say.

Our plane landed in Cancun at 7 pm, 8 pm home time. This time of day was unusual for us, it was only the second time we have come into Cancun this late.

In an attempt to beat the heat, Sunday morning we were up early and went out grocery shopping. Gosh, the snow was on our heels as we left Manitoulin and then walking into 30 degree temperatures, what a shock to the system.

All the morning street food vendors were open and people lined up waiting for their tacos.

Some changes in our little Pueblo  since our time here last season, this used to be a restaurant, now it is a laboratory.

There has been a flower shop here for as long as I can remember - prior to 2015 when we bought our house and now it is gone!

Where did the shoe repair man go?  (reparación de zapatos) - We used his service often so I hope he isn't too far away.

Monday morning we left Puerto Morelos by taxi and headed to Playa del Carmen to meet with the Mexican Immigration Office, we are now residents of Mexico!!!!!

It was a long day, a lot of sitting in the shade, taking a walk about and sitting some more.

I really like the ornamental grasses that grow along the roadsides.

We walked to a large plaza (Plaza Las Americas) for lunch and stopped to browse the Sears store. I find this very nostalgic, how I miss our Sears stores!

They had some of their Christmas decorations out already. This tree is selling for $11,899. Mexican pesos, that is roughly $830.00 dollars Canadian.

Their store is very similar to what we had in Canada - I do miss it.

Piolin, our cat returned - Kris (our property manager), had been feeding him for a few days before we arrived to have him get used to coming around when we got settled in. Piolin if you remember, is the neighbour lady's cat - he just hangs out at our place for meals - 1/2 can tuna in the morning and the other 1/2 can in the evening. He would eat more if we fed him but he is loved by all the neighours. Last year he wouldn't come by on really hot days, we were told the "Cuban Doctors Clinic" 3 doors down from us, were letting him in to have an afternoon snooze in the air conditioned building along with an afternoon snack.  The poor old guy has ear mites and probably flees so we don't let him in the house, but he will sleep on the threshold of our front door.

Allan put the back yard sun shades up this week. They really make a difference in reducing the heat in the back patio and around the pool.

At day's end we treated ourselves to a nice cool Draft Beer at La Cabana Restaurant at the end of our street.

We found the Flower Shop, not sure if it is relocated or owned by someone else, but either way there is one!

In case you are wondering, the flower shop is right across the road from the boat. I think this is considered dry dock here.

We had to have the internet serviced too this week.

On Saturday we went to the port to have our hair cut, had brunch and took a walk about.

We ate at the Peninsula Restaurant, this was their altar for the upcoming Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos)

El Nicho Restaurant, a very popular restaurant has relocated due to upcoming construction at their previous location. They were still closed and scheduled to have their official opening the following day.

We took a walk to the Mayan Artesian Market in hopes to meet some of our favourite venders but found it  to be a quiet day there. The vendors were home resting up for their participation in the evening's Vendors and Entertainment event being held in the central park later that evening.

Even the cat was having a restful day in one of Mauricio's hammocks.

Later that night Allan cooked a delicious supper,

he certainly does like cooking on his BBQ.

This concludes our first week in Paradise. The heat does take some getting used to, however, we only need to unpack, kick back, rest and enjoy Paradise when we arrive. You see, we have 3 of the greatest people who have things ready for us when we  step foot off the plane. Kris, our property manager, Erica, our housekeeper and Rudy our caretaker who looks after the pool and the flowers and yards, etc., all work diligently from the time we leave in Feb or Mar until we return in the fall keeping everything ship shape. Of course there are some things that can not be done until just prior to our arrival, it is like walking into a vacation spot. Like I said, all is clean and ready making us feel that paradise is welcoming us with open arms.

Until the next post, be happy and stay safe!
