October 20 to 26, 2019

This is week  four and still no luggage! I put a post on facebook thinking some negative publicity would get positive
results but nothing yet. I have opened a Twitter account
and will give that a try.

We refuse to dwell on the negativity of lost luggage and continue enjoying as much as we can of this beautiful country we are living in and its wonderful people.

Sunday we went to the beach and spent some time at the popular beach club, My Paradise. It is a lovely spot and very popular, this time of year is still low season so there are not many people yet.

Happy Hour is still the same as previous years, we always miss it because we never stay that late in the day.

Walking vendors are a constant - this fellow was selling sliced fruit. We never buy from them, the fruit looks dried out from the sun and wind and with my parasite problem of a couple of years ago I tend to stay away from any street foods. Once burned twice shy.

This is Tomas, our waiter - actually he
remembered us from last year.

The beaches are clean of Sargasso, that terrible sea weed that has  plagued  the beaches of Quantana Roo which includes among other costal towns, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmon and Tulum. The Municipality of Puerto Morelos  has installed a boom to run  between the beach and the reef here in Puerto Morelos to catch it before it comes ashore.

Maurice and Susan your shade tree is beckoning you to return. There was no one to enjoy its shade when we passed by.

,

We ate lunch at Ojo de Agua's Don Earnesto's Restaurant,
they always serve delicious food. This was the first
stop of this year's vacation.

This is Leo one of the waiters at Don Earnesto's,

Sunday being family day many are drawn to the beach. They put up sunshades, put out the beach chairs, open the coolers and spend the day.

Under the avocado, shaved carrots and something green are the best shrimp tacos in Puerto Morleos.

This leaning light house has become the icon of
Puerto Morelos - beautiful.

We stopped to do a bit of shopping at Super Chedraui on the port side before coming home. They have a buzzer you press for a taxi - works great. Taxis are plentiful but you never seem to find one when you need it unless you walk a short slow walk of about 10 minutes to the taxi stand. Press the buzzer and there is a taxi there for you instantly. This is a new service from last year I think.

Monday we went to Playa del Carmen with Claudia for more clothing shopping.

It was a rainy day so it was a good day to get out of the house and do something productive.

We travelled with the ADO - our favourite way to travel here. The buses are very comfortable, TV, bathrooms on board and the driver is always very friendly and keeps to the speed limit.

It was fun travelling with Claudia because she knows the secret spots and can give you valuable information about the community. She was our own private tour guide.

We enjoy the work that is put into some of their wall murals, I think the artists need to be commended for the work they do.

Claudia assured us we would enjoy lunch at
Cerveceria Chapultepec and we certainly did.
This one on 5th Avenue is upstairs so you have to
pass through another restaurant to get to it.

The decor is unique and so are the prices! Every item on the menu including the beer is 21 pesos each! That is about $1.45 Canadian.  The food comes in appetizer size and you can order as much and as often as you like. It is like the Ikea advertisement "Get the car, get the car!"

The view is good, great for people watching actually,

and the food is the greatest. I keep saying that but really all food is good here in Mexico. Spice is added to your liking and they are very conscientious in making you aware of what is hot and what is not. This is a shrimp burger - you see how big it is beside a potato wedge. The burger was about the size of our sliders.

We found the second Cerveceria Cahpultepec on 5th Avenue, this one is just a bit South of the one we ate at.

The menu is here on facebook, If any of you are planning a trip to Playa del Carment this year you should really check this out.

Allan being sly - he walked down the street and found this... first " I don't need Google, my wife knows everything and

then this. Do you really think he is shy???

On our walk about we came across some interesting
sights - Allan doesn't bend well so he couldn't look
out of the windshield.

Coconut beverages being sold on the street.

We stopped at the fabric shop called Parisina - a paradise for those who love to sew and do crafts. Amazing!

The store is not that large but the selection of fabrics and notions is just out of this world. I wish I could sew!

Claudia managed to get a shot of us leaving to head back to Puerto Morelos. We were not successful in Walmart or Soriana with clothing but we did get a few things from the regular Mexican shops. Nice to have clothes but not what we would normally buy if at home.

We tasted these when in Playa del Carmen, very tasty actually, so I bought some when we came back to Puerto Morelos. They are called Litchi. It is a very sweet fruit with a seed inside. I am not much for fruit but these are delicious.

Saturday we met with friends at El Marinero here in the Colonia. We enjoy going there, they have a swimming pool, the food is good and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Garlic shrimp - soooo good!

These are friends we met last year Suzanne and Allan from Sudbury Ontario. They are living just a few streets North of us so we get to see them often. I have to say Allan has the most attractive brown eyes, they are amber!  A colour I have never seen before, interesting.

These people are the workers at El Marinero, the gentleman in the group is Filipe. Filipe was our waiter and we have known him since we first started coming to Puerto Morelos in 2008. A very nice young man and has a great work ethic when it comes to waiting on tables.

At the end of the afternoon we took a dip in the pool - it is like using a hot tub, the water was 89 degrees - loved it.

The end of the week! It has been a busy one. Saturday we ended it with hair cuts and breakfast which turned out to be brunch.

We had brunch at Tuch Tlan, near the local craftsmen's "Mayan Market". Betty and her staff always serve great food at great prices. Another good place to eat and it is well attended by the locals - a good sign of great food.

A walk about before heading back to our Casa - iguanas show up in quiet places.

It is so unique to see the old Puerto Morelos still standing in the New Puerto Morelos.

This ends of our Fourth week, the weeks have just flew by in a blink. We miss the presence of our kids and grand-kids but thank goodness for social media so we can keep in touch daily.

Pray we soon get our luggage, it would be so nice to get it back!

For the balance of this week please take care, stay safe and keep smiling!
