January 26th to February 1st 2020

This week started out to be an average one until Dwayne surprised us with his visit mid-week. Wow what an unexpected surprise that was.

We took a trip into Cancun for some shopping and lunch with Rudy and Sharon, these are the people who came to our rescue when we first arrived and took us shopping for clothes.

On our return trip home from Cancun we stopped in Bonfil for the best ever fried chicken at "Pollos Asados El Campero".
After posting this blog I have had people asking about the location of the fried chicken place, I hope this helps you find it:

The toilet seal started to leak so we had Fernando,
our handyman, come by and assist with the
replacement of a new one.

Occasionally we have different people come up our street yelling out their crafts, this man's expertise is   sharpening scissors and knives. I had 2 pair of scissors sharpened and he does a great job.

One day we went to visit Louise and Gaston, I messaged the night before to ensure they would be home because it is a bit of a walk to their place. We stopped along the way to buy a few cervezas for the visit. When we arrived there was no car in the driveway, I rang the doorbell but no answer. The assumption was that with no car and no answer to the doorbell meant they had to go somewhere unexpectedly. We sat on two of their lawn chairs, opened a beer each and rested in preparation for the walk back home. Allan suggested I phone Louise to see if they were coming back soon, if not we would head back home.

           She answered,
I said "Where are you?
She said, "At home, where are you?"
I said "Sitting on your lawn chairs in front of your house drinking cervezas"
She then laughingly came to the door to let us in. It was a humours time for all of us. She did not hear the doorbell ring.

.

The following day we had one of our air conditions break down, it needed a new motor which was replaced the same day we called for the repair. A change up from other services we have called in the past.

Cheers to a now working AC!

Later this day Dwayne showed up - it was so nice to have him come and visit. We really enjoyed his time with us.

His first day with us was a beach day.

His first fish tacos for this year were at My Paradise.

On our walk along the beach we came upon this fisherman cleaning his fishing catch. The pelicans  are waiting patiently for anything tossed their way.

We took one day to stay home and get some odd jobs done. Allan and Dwayne installed another security camera, this one is located upstairs over the terrace. It gives a great view of the terrace, sky and trees. The cameras located here at our Casa are cast on to the internet, so we can watch from back home.  In a few weeks it will be bitter sweet to watch the weather, the sun and that beautiful blue sky in Puerto Morelos from the frozen white North of home.

Dinner at La Sirena in the Port and views from the dinner patio.

It was a lovely evening.

We took a day and went to Cancun, where we visited the Fire Hall,

and saw their memorial for fallen firefighters from their department. The on duty firefighters were very welcoming and  gave us a tour of the fire hall and their fire trucks.

Market 23 was another stop on our walking tour. I have mentioned this market previously in a post, it is a market for the locals. Everything from jewellery, clothing, shoes, gift items, flowers, fruits, vegetables, fresh meat, fresh fish  and more is sold at this location.

Fish

Beef stomach, beef hocks and more.

 Seafood.

Chickens with heads and feet still attached.

Fresh fruit and vegetables.

A truckload of bananas

Bundles of wood for sale.

Music being played.

Then we stopped for lunch at our favourite restaurant "La Parrella", we are drawn to the food and the atmosphere.

Following lunch we moved on to Market 28, it is a tourist trap with lots of trinkets and souvenirs sold by over zealous  salesmen.

I so much enjoy the architecture of some of the buildings in Cancun. This day was a walking tour day for us, when you are in a taxi you don't  really see the beauty of the city.

This ends another week, not a whole lot of pictures to show but we do have lots of great memories.

Until my next post stay safe, stay warm and keep smiling!
